Treo 180 / 270 broken lid

Hi Everybody

There are so many cases of broken lids reported on various discussion forums over internet. I thaught I would post some of my experiences here.

I used a Treo 180 for an year or two, then switched over to Treo 270, then again to Treo 600 for a brief period and recently I am using Treo 650. I have gone through the whole cycle of problems that a Treo owner normally experiences.

My Treo 180 and 270 also suffered from "repetitive broken lid" problem. I used many of the available techniques reported by various users in forums:
1. Simple repair with a glue.
2. Combination of epoxy based glue with a pin inserted in a drilled hole.
3. Inserting a heated "pin" inside the hinge area for fixing the lid.
4. Buying a old non-working Treo 180 from ebay and using the lid for replacement.

None of these is a lasting solution. Lid tends to brak after some time because problem lies in the spring.

5. Remove spring itself. (This was the last working solution before I switched over to 600)

One of my not-so-geek friend just showed me an ingenious way to get rid of the lid itself. He just removed the lid and filed off the portruding parts from the face of Treo 180. He cut one of the speaker from a old headset and glued it on the top of Treo 180. I hope the picture below may make it clear.
